When you least expect it...

I'm sure we've all at one point or another fantasized about boarding a flight and scoring a seat next to the gorge guy or girl you saw in the departure lounge. You know the one...the one with the nice luggage and the cool jetsetter vibe. Instead you board, only to be stuck next to the screaming child, the Chatty Cathy (wait, that's ME?!?!), the fluffy flyer that really needed two seats, or the person that boards super late and hits you in the face whilst trying to stuff their OVERSIZED luggage overhead..grrrr.

Well some peeps have all the luck! I know a girl that met her now husband 30,000 feet above ground, but nothing beats this special proposal from Arvin Shandiz. Arvin met girlfriend Alexandra on board a 2010 Delta flight from Chicago to New York and a year later chose that same leg to pop the question *swoon*.

Moral of this story: think twice before you decide to dress "comfy" for your next flight ;-)

I still can't believe that I juusssssttt took my first trip to the Windy City (the nickname that I soon learned has nothing to do with cross winds). I went to Chicago this past Friday for a work event on Saturday...grant it I had to work a 6 day week, but I figured "hey, this is mutually I'm all over it". Hmmm, wonder if I would have been so geeked to go if the destination was Nebraska...blegh...doubt it.
I had a partner in crime, as one of my favorite co-workers was in tow. What she probably wasn't expecting was for me to drag around the city like we were on a landmark treasure hunt. We checked into the swanky Hilton on Michigan Ave. around 4p, only to have enough time to drop our bags and hit the road. Before meeting up with another co-worker and my girl Vee, we managed to hit Grant Park, Johnson's Publishing (Jet, Ebony...), the Bean and the 26 foot tall Marilyn Monroe sculpture. Once we linked with the girls we did some more running around town to include Garretts, the famous gourmet popcorn (sorry I'm not down with the popcorn phenomenon) and then off to a yummy boozy dinner.

I'm sure shots will be fired when I make this comment, but I gotta say it  *deep breathhhhhh*... IThinkChicagoIsPrettierThanNYC....whew. Being from the Concrete Jungle, I feel very confident in my observation...I mean, they have a raging river running through the city. Chicago is sooooo clean...hell, I didn't see or have to jump over any cats rats...success, right?! Ok, I really need some feedback here...if you feel different or even agree please leave a comment.

*****I can't end without giving a shout out to the town of real reason for going to Illinois. Only 8 miles south of Wisconsin...this town situated on Lake Michigan was super charming and full of sweet residents. Doubt you'll find yourself up there, but if you do, get the caffe macchiato at Joplin Java...just don't drink it before you jump on a 90 minute flight...not a good look ;-) *****

No clue how I missed this article, but thank GOD a co-worker of mine (that knows my love obsession with Japan) linked me! In an effort to boost tourism, Japan's Tourist Board is proposing a campaign to include 10,000 free round trip tickets. So far the only requirements are: submit a detailed itinerary and then blog/facebook/tweet about your travel experience once you return. Easy Peasy, right?!?! If Japan's lawmakers approve this proposal, we'll be able to apply as early as April (not early enough *sigh*). I'll keep you posted as the deets trickle of luck to us!!

Let's go GLAMPING !!!!

Per Urban Dictionary, glamping is glamorous camping or satisfying your craving for the outdoors and your penchant for a good meal, nice glass of wine and a comfortable bed. Now I don't know if I would describe my interest in glamping as a "craving for the outdoors", but I am trying to step out of my box a bit and I think this would be a great first step.

I've been dropping hints to my friends for a few weeks now, but said hints have fallen on deaf ears. Mind you, I have NEVER been camping and I'm allergic to most trees and all I may not be the obvious candidate to lead the pack, but I swear this is bound to be a fun weekend. I'm only in the research phase, but I'm finding some super cute digs with en suite amenities like SHOWERS and CENTRAL HEATING. If only I can get a campsite butler and chef included in the "beer budget"...hmmm. Wish me luck ;-)

Don't forget to leave a comment...I love hearing from you all!

As you all know October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and with that comes pink everything ...from NFL apparel to the Empire State Building's pink glow ! Unbeknownst to me, Delta supports this great cause annually by painting a plane, changing the uniform to a pink wrap dress and they serve Minute Maid Pink Lemonade for $2 with all proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. It's the little things like this that will make me consider paying a dollar or two more to fly Delta!
